Football all over the world is in disarray at the moment as a number of major leagues are postponing their seasons.
La Liga, MLS, Serie A and the Premier League are all postponed for the foreseeable future, but it’s not just domestic football that has been affected.
Indeed, England have announced that their upcoming international friendlies with Italy and Denmark have now been cancelled, and that could be a huge blow for one Leeds United player.

It’s been a long-time since a Leeds player was in the England squad, with Paul Robinson being the last man to earn his first cap for the Three Lions. However, it seemed as though we were on the verge of seeing one of the Whites’ stand-out players make his debut for Gareth Southgate’s team.
The Telegraph (via LeedsLive) reported last month that Kalvin Phillips was being seriously considered by Gareth Southgate as a contender to make the next squad, but with the games being called off, that now won’t happen.
Phillips’ chance to impress the England boss before this summer’s European Championship has been taken away from him, and his chances of making the cut at the Euros have taken a massive hit.
As it stands, the Euros are still scheduled to go ahead, and if the tournament comes and goes without Phillips getting the chance to make his Three Lions debut he will have to feel that this is a massive missed opportunity.
The midfielder is in the form of his life, playing a key role as United sit at the top of the Championship. As per Whoscored, his average match rating of 7.2 places him second amongst all Leeds players, with only Luke Ayling managing better.
Unfortunately, the fact of the matter is that this form may not last forever – don’t forget that United fans were even calling for him to be sold before Marcelo Bielsa arrived.
Of course, the football delay has been an absolute nightmare for everyone involved with the sport, but it seems as though Phillips could be one of the players whose career suffers the most from this as he looks to have been denied a major landmark.
In other news, Marcelo Bielsa may have saved Leeds a lot of money.
