According to The Sun, Chelsea are plotting a surprise £40 million move to bring Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake back to Stamford Bridge, and Everton’s chances of signing Kurt Zouma permanently would surely be boosted if a deal happens.
What’s the word?
Ake only left the Blues in 2017, when he joined the Cherries. The 23-year-old has since impressed consistently for Eddie Howe’s side.
A return to the London club could now be on the cards for the 10-cap Netherlands international, who certainly has the ability to feature for a top six side

However, the knock on effects of Ake’s return to Chelsea could be significant, and the consequences could play directly into Everton’s hands.
Were Ake to return to Chelsea then Kurt Zouma’s place in Maurizio Sarri’s squad would be cast into doubt. Currently on loan at Goodison Park, the signing of the Dutch defender could force Zouma out on a permanent basis.
Domino effect
Marco Silva would surely love to make the 6ft 3in colossus a permanent fixture his Everton squad given how well the 6’3” centre-back has played this season. A move for Ake to Stamford Bridge could open the door for the Toffees to launch such a bid.
What’s more, a permanent move to Everton would probably be the best thing for Zouma too. The 24-year-old needs to be playing week in, week out, which is unlikely to happen for him under Sarri. Under Silva, however, Zouma could be the lynchpin of the back line for years to come, especially with the likes of Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams ageing.
A permanent switch to Everton really could be the making of Zouma.
